Rural wealth: get organized before conflict
Rural families that prosper for a few decades but do not last across generations tend to share the same problem: they did not organize their assets before conflict arose.
It is a common pattern in rural families with large estates: one generation builds, the second preserves, and the third runs into complexity. This happens because complexity only appears once the estate is already large, the family is numerous, and the operation is in full swing.
A well-designed wealth structure keeps a family dispute from destroying the asset. Holding company, family governance, shareholders' agreement, succession planning, and tax efficiency: when these pieces are put in place before conflict, they protect both the family and the operation.
In our ongoing mandates with rural families, we see a practical rule: the earlier the structure is designed, the lower the costs, whether tax, succession, or the cost of family relationships.
