Who we are and how we work.
Tellus Brasil grew out of the partners' own experience. We have bought and sold farms, borrowed as producers and audited corporate groups. In that work we kept seeing the same weaknesses. We founded Tellus to address them across three pillars: rural assets, funding and debt restructuring, and agribusiness M&A.
In Brazilian agribusiness, land, credit and companies go hand in hand. Anyone leading transactions in this market needs technical expertise and an international perspective.
Brazil's land market has always been fragmented and full of intermediaries without technical training. In rural credit, few firms do the work of structuring. A corporate transaction in agribusiness is never purely financial. We built a lean team to analyze a property, a debt position or a company in full and take the transaction to any counterparty, in any jurisdiction.
Across all three pillars we follow the same method: intelligence, execution and consolidation. We prefer that clients get to know us through the quality of our transactions. That is why much of our work is carried out discreetly.
“We prefer a few transactions, well executed.”
The seven principles of Tellus.
01
Ethics
We decline mandates whose premise does not pass our internal ethics review.
02
Confidentiality
Every transaction runs under NDA, with document control and secure communication. Properties and companies remain anonymized until there is qualified interest.
03
Technical expertise
A master's degree in Agrarian Law, Big Four training, direct experience in rural operations and senior executive roles at major groups.
04
Analytical discipline
We base decisions on data: official databases and remote sensing for property, cash flow and collateral for credit, financial statements and contracts for companies.
05
Discretion
We do not disclose clients or transactions. The sale of a farm, a debt renegotiation and the entry of a new shareholder call for the same discretion.
06
International perspective
We work in Portuguese, English and Spanish. We present Brazilian farmland and agribusiness companies in the terms foreign investors use, while keeping our local knowledge.
07
Operational consistency
We have run farms and operated forestry projects. We assess properties, liabilities and companies with the experience of operators who have sat on every side of the table.
How we make decisions internally.
Four internal mechanisms apply to every Tellus transaction, across all three pillars.
Mandate Committee
Every new transaction goes through an internal committee that assesses the thesis, reputational risk, technical feasibility and fit with the Tellus standard. Mandates without unanimous approval are not accepted.
Full Due Diligence
For rural property, our own protocol with five mandatory checks: land registry, notary and personal records, environmental and regulatory, possession, and socio-territorial. For fundraising and restructuring, a review of liabilities, collateral and capacity to pay. For companies, corporate, accounting, tax, labor and litigation matters.
Operational Confidentiality
Documents shared under NDA, individual access control and an auditable record of the relevant communications in each transaction.
Strategic Partner Network
We work with selected law firms, tax accountants, family offices and consultancies. Tellus coordinates these partners and works alongside the client's other advisors.
Two initiatives in progress.
One concerns the quality of our processes, the other our emissions. Neither has been completed yet.
ISO 9001
Quality management
We are standardizing our processes in preparation for ISO 9001 certification. Certification is granted by an independent certification body after an audit.
Brazilian GHG Protocol Program
Emissions inventory
We are considering joining the program, run by FGV's Center for Sustainability Studies (FGVces), to prepare an inventory of our greenhouse gas emissions. That inventory would be the starting point for assessing a path to carbon neutrality.
Land, credit or company: every transaction
starts with a conversation.
We serve Brazilian and foreign investors, funds, family offices, producers, agribusiness groups and business families. Every conversation starts under confidentiality, with the same due diligence rigor we apply to our transactions.
